Our top 3 breakfasts in Newcastle

We'll start by saying that there are loads of great breakfast spots outside of the city centre, and we've frequented many of them. But for the purpose of this blog post, we're going to focus on the city centre and where you can eat that is walkable if you're in town.

Blakes, Grey Street

Blakes is a Newcastle institution and has been there for as long as we can remember, you can expect good quality traditional breakfast options and a decent cuppa. They also have a sunny outdoor terrace for days when the sun is shining (or if you're a hardy local, in the middle of winter too!)

When we recently visited, we went for the eggs benedict and pancakes with maple syrup and blueberries, but we've probably tried most of the items on the menu over the years.

Tiny Tiny, Carliol Square

Tiny Tiny is a relative newcomer to the breakfast and brunch scene and offers something a little different to the traditional breakfast place. Although they do have regular breakfast options (like a block and bottle sausage sarnie in a stottie), it's more of a hipster style vibe with a regularly changing menu, which includes things like various hashes, turkish eggs, rancheros etc.

The coffee they serve, from Roastsmiths, is arguably the best in the town too.

Quay Ingredient, Queen Street

Quay Ingredient is down on the quayside, under the Tyne Bridge itself. More of a traditional breakfast cafe in appearance but they pride themselves on being eggs benedict specialists, so you can expect all kinds of varieties.

There are no reservations so walk ins only; it does get busy and there is often a queue but they turn around tables fast so you shouldn't have to wait too long. They do also have a small seating area outside.

Doing a recent visit we had tempura prawn egg benedict with sriracha (which was a special they had on) and a full English breakfast.

These three spots are all very different, but equally good options depending on what you fancy. Check them out and let us know what you think!
